film scanning technique

Posted on November 9, 2009

okeh here’s how i prepare my scannings.
i got mine for around RM1 for 3/4 of the glass of the mirror.
so aku letak masking tape (masking tape ni bagai spender untuk budak budak architecture, tiap tiap hari pakai..dan aku rase, aku mest pakai untuk buat hantaran aku nanti) kat both ends, and buat die terkeluar lebih sket. make sure betul betul secure.

the negative pun tak patut tertonjol keluar sampai situuu.

so bile dah letak tu, mesti nak bagi negative tu align, kan? so kau tutup sebelah mata, dan align sama dengan satu line kat bahagian bawah kaca tuu..tempat metal rod yang menjadi lalauan tempat scan tu berjalan pun okay..u need practice to do this insyaAllah.

okeh then bukak photoshop,
tekan file>import>canoscan.

then

then tekan preview.
bile die habis tekan preview,
tekan erase all crop,
nanti akan satu crop je,
so korang drap crop tu ke gambar pertama sahaja.
then tarik cropping tu supaya die select kesemua

then tarik cropping tu supaya die select kesemua
(notice that i DONTinclude the sprockets just yet)

then press ZOOM.

after it has shown the previewed zoomed version,
then you drag the cropping over to the sprockets.
buat masa ni,die dah tak kisah dah samada kite terlebih sampai ke cermin ke,
atau terlebih sampai ke sprockets ke
..

NOTE.

THIS METHOD CAN BE USED WITH 120 FILM AS WELL,THAT’S WHY I CAN GET THE FRAME,ALONGSIDE WITH THE NEGATIVE SCAN.

after scanning (i usually do it around 2400 or 1600,depends on ur personal tastes),u’d get the scan as a whole.
satu keping scan lah,macam tu.

u need to properly crop it the way u want it, alongside with the sprockets.
u can highlight the image using the marquee tool, copy it,then paste it onto a new document, before saving it as a new jpeg. at least that’s how i do it

:)

well that’s all folks!
i hope this really helps!

    bak,

  11. admin November 13, 2009 3:30 pm

    adoi,
    aku pun tak tahu weyh,
    aku main beli jeh!
    ahahahahhaa.
but then nanti susah nak adjust.
    susah ler.
    hehe
die punye panjang pun jangan panjang sangat,
sebab nanti takde clearance untuk calbration point tu (bahagian atas diaman sensor scanner tu menyorok)
    :)
